Cisco WS-C4510R+E Software and Firmware upgrade
Scenario
- Inserting New(Secondary) Supervisor to the same Chassis.
- New Secondary Supervisor has an Old firmware (ROMMON) version and IOS
- Scenario can be applicable to Catalyst 4000/4500 Series Switches
Steps:
1. Insert Secondary supervisor engine to the available supervisor engine slot and Console to the Secondary supervisor .
2. Break auto booting by typing “control-C (Ctrl+c)”
3. Download the Same IOS and Formware image as in Primary supervisor
4. Copy the images to USB (FAT 32 File format) and inset to Secondary Supervisor USB port
5. Set IOS boot image as example shows

boot usb0: cat4500es8-universal.SPA.03.10.02.E.152-6.E2.bin
!
6. Once Boot secondary supervisor will shows as “Switch-standby>”
7. Console to the Primary Supervisor and insert USB to the Primary Supervisor USB port
8. Copy both IOS and ROMMON images to the slavebootflash: as example shows

copy usb0: cat4500es8-universal.SPA.03.10.02.E.152-6.E2.bin slavebootflash:
copy usb0: firmwareupgrade-151_1r_SG17.SPA slavebootflash:
ROMMON Upgrade
9. Reload Peer supervisor engine as example shows
!
redundancy reload peer
!
10. Console to secondary Supervisor and break auto booting by typing “control-C (Ctrl+c)”
11. Set ROMMON boot image as example shows
!
boot usb0: cat4500es8-universal.SPA.03.10.02.E.152-6.E2.bin
!
12. Wait for boot sequence complete. Once Boot secondary supervisor will shows as “Switch-standby>”
13. Console to Primary Supervisor and apply following command to verify SSO mode, IOS version, and firmware version
14. If Operating mode shows RPR configure SSO as follows
Changing to sso mode will reset the standby
!
Switch(config)# redundancy
Switch(config-red)# mode sso
!

Tips:
Always verify MD5 hash
Switch# verify /md5 bootflash:cat4500es8-universalk9.SPA.03.10.02.E.152-6.E2.bin
Switch# verify /md5 slavebootflash:cat4500es8-universalk9.SPA.03.10.02.E.152-6.E2.bin
Always Copy IOS, Firmware images by USB (copying from bootflash to slavebootflash will take time)
